Investors: Why Us?

Lone Rock is a family-owned timber company with a proud past and a forward-looking future.

We’re more than numbers on paper. We own and manage our forestlands for the long-term. We plant and grow trees, maintain healthy communities and forests, and harvest and sell timber. And we make honest money doing it. For that, investors reward us with their trust.

Our mission statement says it best: To maximize shareholder returns and long-term value of forestlands while enhancing the environmental, social, and economic integrity of the lands and communities in which we reside.

Creating value for the long-term – A tree takes decades to reach harvestable maturity. Lone Rock takes a long-term view of investing in timber.

  • Invested: We own and manage in excess of 130,000 acres of productive Douglas-fir forestlands in southwestern Oregon.
  • Prepared: Sophisticated planning systems allow us to align supply and demand to capture value.
  • Disciplined: Our unique sales-matrix strategy helps us achieve the highest long-term value while being good stewards of the land.
  • Agile: Our vertical structure allows quick and nimble reaction to the market and better control of outcomes.
  • Superior Value: Our operations have consistently yielded income and capital appreciation.

We think of sustainability as simply managing the land so our kids and grandkids can share the same benefits we enjoy. Being a good caretaker of the environment has been a value since our first days. We not only comply with our state’s comprehensive forestry laws, some of the most stringent in the nation, but we go the extra step to work with cooperators and agencies to ensure we’re creating desired future outcomes for the enduring productivity of the land and forest ecosystems. In 2016, our lands and operations were certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI®) for economic, environmental and social sustainability.

Social responsibility is deeply rooted in our value system. Responsibility starts with our employees. We are generous with our time and contributions to community organizations and charitable causes that are vital to the success of our communities, employees and their families. We encourage and support our employees to improve their communities through direct contributions and active participation. Additionally, many of our employees participate in numerous local, state, and national professional associations, invest in strategic research and development, and engage in regulatory processes.

Partners, not clientswe view our investors as long-term partners who are part of the decision-making process. We walk our talk, co-investing with partners in acquisitions seeking aligned value benefits. Our management fee is fully loaded, which includes our in-house expertise, planning, and management services.

We manage our lands based on the values the Sohn family established in 1950. And we seek growth opportunities aligned with our financial, environmental, and social responsibility standards.
